My friend went to Canada through a student program, which allows her to also work in limited hours. Now, she's complaining about having to do menial jobs despite her degree in PH. It's like she really had to start from scratch. Even with relatives there, she's still struggling. On top of that, she experiences discrimination quite often. She's also unsure if she'll get residency or even be allowed to stay there long-term after her program. This makes me wonder if the 3M fund she used for the program could have been invested in a business here in the PH. Yes, it would have been risky, but wouldn't it have been better to risk your money, work hard in your own country with your fellow Filipinos, and perhaps even generate jobs for others, on top of your own profits? Of course, it wouldn't be easy, and there's always room for learning. But I would rather work tirelessly and become successful in my own country, then visit other countries as a tourist, than be undervalued labor in another country, facing discrimination and being a tourist in my own land. The Filipino mentality often sees people abroad as successful, not realizing that you might be living better in many ways. Of course, everyone has different goals. I just can't help but imagine how much better we could do if we had more of an entrepreneurial spirit rather than just an employee mentality. With talents, skills, and patience, we have the potential to achieve so much more.

These "Students" aren't here to study but are here to try to get an easier pathway to permanent residency, which is a pathway to Citizenship. While also being unwilling to engage with English and French Canadian media sources.
